NASHIK (NASHIK): Since Friday afternoon, almost 4,000 commercial and residential customers in Nashiks old city area were forced to endure long hours-in some cases, more than 24 hours-without electricity due to the damage to a portion of the underground cable. The damage to the cable affected the supply to the two feeders from where power is supplied to these consumers in areas such as Saraf Bazaar, Ravivar Karanja, and Bhandi Bazaar. With the maximum temperature hovering around the 36-37 degree Celsius mark, people here were having a difficult time without fans and lights.D H Padalkar, the superintending engineer for MSEDCLs Nashik circle, told the power utility that the power grid was able to re-charge the electricity supply to the affected customers in phases.

According to Padalkar, the remaining 400 odd consumers had their electricity supply restored by Saturday afternoon. We assumed that the MSEDCL was doing pre-monsoon maintenance when the power supply suddenly stopped abruptly on Friday afternoon. We called the local MSEDCL authorities after the supply had not been restored even after more than an hour.In the heat, it's impossible to stay with no fan, said Rajesh Wagh, a Bhandi Bazaar customer.

Due to the heat, none of my family members would sleep at night. The electricity supply for us was restored around 11 a.m. on Saturday, she said.According to some residents of the affected areas, water could not be pumped from the basement reservoirs to overhead tanks. They had to carry buckets of water up the stairs.

By then, the invertor batteries had drained as well.According to him, there was no way to recharge the batteries and the power supply to Saraf Bazaar was restored by 4 p.m. on Saturday.Even goldsmiths, according to some jewelers, had to carry out intricate ornament making work in candlelight. In the warm sun, it is impossible to do such delicate and precise tasks.

Customers said we have to hand over the watches to them. Some portions of the road had been dug up by some authorities recently, and the underground cables had been weakened, according to MSEDCL officials. We needed to spot the missing sections of the underground cable and then repair them. This was a long-term task.
