On a dry SCG pitch here on Wednesday, Daryl Mitchell hit a stunning unbeaten fifty to help New Zealand win a decent 152 for four against Pakistan in the first semifinal. When batting, New Zealand batters found the going difficult on a new SCG track as they struggled to connect the ball because of the slowness of the surface.Mitchell (53 not out of 35) and skipper Kane Williamson (46 off 42) restored New Zealands innings after early struggles to finish last editions runner-up over the 150-run mark.Finn Allen started his innings off to a rocky start, hitting Shaheen Afridis (224) full delivery down the ground into mid-on for a boundary.
However, the batter was given a reprieve when TV replays revealed that it was an inside edge on to the pads. However, Afridi got his man in the next ball with another LBW blast, this time dead straight, even though Allen went for a defensive review.Devon Conway (21) was unable to make the innings by throwing three boundaries, but was dismissed by Shadab Khan at mid-off.However, New Zealand fell to 49 for three wickets in eight overs with Glenn Phillips playing just eight balls, top-edging left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz straight back to him. Mitchell was at his aggressive best as Williamson played the role of anchor, mostly dealing in ones and twos with occasional boundaries in between. The two made their fifty-run mark in 36 balls, but they struggled to shift the pace towards the end because boundaries and sixes were difficult to come by.Williamson fell four short of a half-century when bowled by Afridi in the 17th over with a slower off-cutter as the batter went for a scoop over the keepers head.Mitchell maintained the Kiwi innings after Williamsons' absence, scoring his fifty-seventh century in 32 innings.New Zealand have set a target of 153 for Pakistan 🏏
