Increased water supply for Lake Town and Bangur in Kolkata

Rs 285 crore water supply enhancement scheme at Bangur will benefit over 2.5 lakh people . The scheme will drain in pure water from the Hooghly from the Kamarhati intake jetty via a 13-kilometer pipe .

KOLKATA (KoLKATA): Since state urban development minister Firhad Hakim inaugurated the Rs 285 crore water supply enhancement scheme at Bangur on Friday, major areas of South Dum Dum, including Lake Town, Bangur, and Dakshindari, will now have more filtered surface water supply.This will drain in pure water from the Hooghly from the Kamarhati intake jetty via a 13-kilometer pipe and purify the water at Bangur's 15-MGD treatment plant.Over 2.5 lakh people live in the area will benefit from the scheme.As a thank you to South Dum Dum for helping us with this water supply scheme.

Residents are content with the new development.There used to be a shortage of water supply, especially during the peak summer months.According to Sambit Majumder, a local resident believes that this additional water supply scheme will solve the problem for good.Sujit Bose, a bidhannagar MLA and fire services minister, said the construction of the pedestrian subway at Dum Dum Park is about to come to its final stage and that it will open just before puja.
