New York, December 9: India provided soft loans worth USD 2 billion to projects in Central Africa, according to Indias Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, on Thursday, highlighting the close and friendly bilateral links between New Delhi and the region.We have increased our diplomatic presence in the area.During a UNSC briefing on UNOCALRA (UN Regional Office for Central Africa, Lords Resistance Army), ambassador Kamboj said that his development assistance and coordination has been steadfast.She said that India has given countries in the region soft loans worth USD 2 billion for projects in agriculture, transportation, power, and water.

She noted that the economic developments in the Central African countries have been fruitful, highlighted by electoral processes, regular dialogue, and collaboration between countries.The Indian envoy stressed that the socioeconomic and humanitarian situation in the Central African region is complex, characterized by historical injustices and exacerbated by human needs.The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the long-running Ukraine conflict, are reversing the previously-progressing development achievements.In her address, Ambassador Kamboj praised the Multinational Joint Task Force's contribution to combating Boko Haram and allied terror organizations.

She also said that underplaying the impact of terrorism on regional security and overplaying other factors that threaten regional stability only serves to destabilize our understanding of the issue and, in turn, our responses.
