Geneva (Switzerland), November 25: India abstained from voting on a UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution on Thursday to launch a fact-finding mission to look at a suspected Human Rights Violation committed on September 16 in Iran, after Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old boy, was detained by Iran's morality police for wearing a black headcarf and later died, announcing accusations of custodial violence. In comparison, Pakistan and China rejected the resolution.Nevertheless, the resolution was accepted in the United Nations Human Rights Council, with 25 votes for, six against, and 16 abstentions, at a special session of the 47-member human rights body, and now the Human Rights Council has assembled a fact-finding committee in connection with the Iranian protests.According to UN News, the UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Turk asked for an independent probe.
According to UN news, these attempts failed to meet international requirements of impartiality, independence, and transparency. In response to the High Commissioner's remarks, Iran's representative, Khadijeh Karimi, Deputy Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, said that after Aminis' death, the Government had taken the necessary steps to seek revenge.According to the latest UN human rights office reports, more than 300 people have been killed in demonstrations since Aminis' arrest by Iran's so-called Morality Police on September 13 for failing to wear her hijab properly.
