Washington, D.C., December 9, 2016: Timothy Betts, the United States Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, is due to fly to India next week for a two-day visit to assess regional and global terrorist threat threats.Betts will lead the US delegation to the annual US-India Counterterrorism Joint Working Group in New Delhi. The Joint Working Group would review regional and global terrorist threat assessments, joint bilateral and regional counterterrorism programs, and ways to enhance law enforcement and judicial relations, according to a statement from the US State Department. This visit comes a month after India hosted a Special Meeting of the UN Security Councils Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) in Mumbai and Delhi on October 28-29.Following the two-day meeting, a Delhi Declaration was released, which stated that terrorism in all forms and forms is one of the most significant threats to international peace and security.

In a globalized world, terrorists are increasingly being used, according to India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj.During the UNSC's December presidency, India will be deliberating on United Nations reforms and global counter-terrorism.The focus is on two main themes: the first, a comprehensive one, aimed at establishing a new multilateralist frame, and the second, a broad counter-terrorism plan and the way forward, said Kamboj. At the counter-terrorism committee briefing, Kamboj announced the results of the committee's special meeting in India in October. The declaration, she said, is a pioneering document aimed at broadening the council's approach to addressing this problem.
