Intelligent drainage to save rainwater at the racecourse

The municipal corporation is planning to install a smart stormwater drainage system at Race Course . Water collected by drains will be pumped into an EcoBloc rainwater harvesting tank .

Coimbatore: To reduce floods and conserve rainwater, the municipal corporation is planning to install a smart stormwater drainage (SWD) system, which will be the first of its kind in the city at Race Course.Water collected by drains will be pumped into an EcoBloc rainwater harvesting tank, from which it will be used for landscaping and other purposes.A pilot scheme was completed at Race Course for about 10 meters.On the 2.6-kilometer race course, our engineers are tackling waterlogging-prone areas.

According to corporation commissioner M Prathap, EcoBloc will be installed wherever required.The project will cost 2.1 crore if removed, changed, and installed at another location as required.According to a corporation official, infiltration drains would cost 1.4 crore, while EcoBloc would cost 70 lakh at 100 places.On the model road that is being constructed at Race Course as part of the smart cities initiative, there is no SWD.
