ISL: Odisha FC holds off pressure from Chennaiyin FC to secure dramatic victory

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) India: On Thursday, Odisha FC and Chennaiyin FC met in dramatic fashion in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, after Chennaiyin FC scored the equalizer in the 94th minute on a penalty from Abdenasser El Khayati.Pedro Martin started his first game of the season for Odisha FC with Diego Mauricio replacing him on the bench.Jerry Mawihmingthanga returned to the starting lineup, while Isaac Chhakchhuak started from the bench.Chennaiyin FC took on the same team as Jamshedpur FC, with Odisha FC taking their noses in front just after halftime, thanks to an own goal by Vafa Hakhamaneshi.

Hakhamaneshi redirected the ball into the back of his net while attempting an intercept.At half-time, Chennaiyin FC made two changes.El Khayati and Rahim Ali took over to replace Julius Duker and Sajal Bag.At the break, Odisha FC made a substitution that raised a few eyebrows as PedRo was replaced by Mauricio.

To end his five-game goal drought, Mauricio took it and smashed it into the bottom of the net.The Thomas Brdarics team pulled one back just after the break.Ajith Kumar curled a ball into the box from the right flank before Petar Sliskovic flicked it on with his head and El Khayati slotted in their first goal with a composed finish in the 89th minute.Odisha FC regained control of the field of play by attacking Sekar, who pounced on a missing ball in the final third, lifting them from fifth to third place, just behind Mumbai City FC.

Chennaiyin FC remains seventh in the table, sandwiched between the two Kolkata clubs.On Saturday, the Marina Arena will host Hyderabad FC, who will return to the Marina Arena.
