According to the PoE, instances where certain Indians managed to obtain their freedom after paying a ransom of USD 3,500 to 7,000 have also surfaced.According to the PoE, there are some 100-150 Indian nationals stranded in the Myawaddy area of the country and Thailand's neighboring countries, according to reports in the press.According to the MEA study, the majority of Indian nationals are from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.Since the first news of the case was published in July 2022, the MEA has been delivering the necessary rescue missions to Thailand and Myanmar, as well as providing necessary consular services to the rescued individuals detained in immigration detention centers.

According to the PoE, both our embassies in Yangon and Bangkok have issued warnings and have been regularly discussing the issue with the local authorities. The duped Indian nationals travelled to Bangkok by way of the Visa on Arrival system and were quickly transferred to Myanmar, so following their arrival and departure was not possible until the mission was reached by the victims or their families.According to the PoE, some of the rescued people have discovered that such camps are located in Myanmar and that they are often under the custody of some rebel groups.Individuals accepted the offer and accepted the camps in many cases after being warned of it by Indian missions' normal advisories.
