JAIPUR (India): Authorities have scanned officials from the Jaipur division of the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) for passing bills to contractors who supply water through tankers without asking for permission.Junior engineers (JEN) and assistant engineers (AEN) of the Jaipur division of PHED cleared bills of water tankers worth about Rs 80 lakh in 2021-22 without checking.According to the initial audit report submitted by the finance advisor, the company that developed the GPS system to track tanker movements did not inform the authorities of the anomalies.Dinesh Singh, the company's director, denied claims that the application sent out repeated alerts to authorities who did not follow through with it.Photos were included in the setup process, which had to be uploaded to the application.Drivers, on the other hand, short-circuiting the entire process by uploading fake images of the tankers' water levels. Many of the images entered into the program were of drums or dustbins on the streets that were totally unrelated.Tankers were also reported to have completed trips much earlier. Engineers were sent notices seeking their answers. The culprits will be prosecuted.Red-alerts were seen on television many times, according to company director Singh, who denied officials' allegations.Since they are not reaching their destination, I've also sent letters to officials to check the status of water tankers. Sources within the department said this would never have happened without the officials' help. Two more tests are ongoing to re-check this point.
