Washington, D.C., May 15, 2016 : Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on May 16 to lead a presidential delegation and offer condolences on behalf of the US administration and Americans on the death of President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to a white house statement.The Vice Presidents' visit will also give the United Arab Emirates' president, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a fresh sense of hope.In addition to honoring Sheikh Khalifa's memory and legacy, Vice President Al Nahyan will emphasize the strength of our friendship and our determination to strengthen our links in the coming months and years, according to the tweet.US President Joe Biden expressed his thanks to Abu Dhabi's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on his appointment as the UAE president on Saturday and said he will continue to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

The President recalled Sheikh Mohammed, the newly elected president, for being at the forefront of the US-UAE relationship.He said that he has long been at the forefront of establishing this friendship with Sheikh Mohammed, whom I met with many times as Vice President when he was Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince, and that he is looking forward to working with him to continue strengthening the links between the two countries and the people.The UAE's Federal Supreme Council had convened earlier today to elect the President, who will serve for a five-year term before being considered for re-election.At a meeting, the new president was selected from among the members of the Federal Supreme Council.
