Kerala: 2 people are detained after 2 tonnes of gold are seized at the airport in Kochi.

Two domestic travelers were arrested at Kochi airport . The drugs seized by the Customs were valued at Rs 2.60 crore and 6.45 kilograms .

Kochi, Kerala (Kerala) (India), November 25: At Kochi airport, two domestic travelers, identified as Syed Abuthahir and Barakaththullah A, were arrested by officers of the Kochi Customs department on Thursday, using classified documents.They were travelling in the names of Vasudevan and Arul Selvam respectively.The drugs seized by the Customs were valued at Rs 2.60 crore and 6.45 kilograms.After an alert was received, the pair was intercepted.

Officials said the hand luggage was handed over by a Sri Lankan national at the Mumbai airport security hall during preliminary interrogation.According to the official press release, the Mumbai airport smuggled the gold stolen from the Gulf without having to go through customs.Both of them have been convicted of violating the non-bailable clause.A customs investigation into the case is ongoing.

Earlier this month, the Customs departments Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) confiscated around 422 grams of gold worth more than Rs 38 lakh at the Kochi airport, according to the customs.The gold was stolen from passengers visiting Dubai.
