KOLKATA (KoLKATA): To accommodate the large number of applicants for entrance examinations in physics and chemistry, Jadavpur University is considering external centers.Four departments within the science faculty have decided to conduct admissions tests this year.Around 6,000 applicants are submitted to the department of English and international relations, which conducts tests with 2,000-odd applicants each year.Although it was not necessary to scan through these applications to find the correct list, organising tests for 6,000 students is a challenge.

But the numbers are getting increasingly murky.Around 6,000 applicants compete for the 80 positions in physics each year, according to the system. To accommodate students in admission tests, other departments must have classrooms. On each bench, three students are generally placed.

The idea will be discussed at the admission committee's meeting on Friday.
