Thiruvananthapuram, December 20, 2016: The head of state Pinarayi Vijayan has declared a free toll-free helpline (1800-123-7856) for people who require their feet to be amputated due to diabetes or excessive smoking. As part of the Vascular Society of Keralas' initiative to reduce diabetic amputations, the helpline service was developed. The society is aiming to reduce the number of people who lose legs due to this initiative.Diabetic patients can contact this helpline number for assistance on various treatment choices.

According to a survey conducted by the organization, 80% of patients will avoid leg damage if timely and accurate therapy is given.Because of reduced blood flow to the legs and persistent infections in the legs, most people lose their legs.According to studies, less than 20% of patients with this type of amputation are able to return to a normal life.Even in financially sound households, relatives are unable to look after such children and are frustrated because they are unable to get food on schedule and do not receive assistance with basic duties.
