Mahendra Kumar Sharma, who played a pivotal role in India's history in the 1970s, died in Pune after suffering from age-related illnesses.On Tuesday, he breathed his last breath.He wasShubhangi Kulkarni, the former India captain, has announced the death of Sharma, who was the founding secretary of the Womens Cricket Association of India (WCAI) for the first five years.His contribution to womens cricket is immense.

Soon after India began touring Australia and New Zealand, it began to tour the country.What he achieved in five-six years was unimaginable.He would sometimes be asked for funds from his father to run the club, and he borrowed as well.When womens cricket was finally included in the BCCI umbrella in 2006, he was the happiest man.

Although the BCCI assumed control of womens cricket in 2006, India hosted the first Womens World Cup in 1978 under Sharma's leadership.India hosted another edition in 1997, when England took on Australia in the Eden Gardens final.Sharma was also instrumental in the Indian women's first test in Bengaluru in 1976.
