Manik Saha, a 69-year-old Tripura president and Rajya Sabha member, joined the BJP on December 11, 2016, leaving Deb, who was then the BJP's state unit, as a solemn note in the local media.Debs' claim that the BJP, which was slowly building ground in Tripura, will not establish any pre-poll alliance with regional parties until the Assembly elections had sparked more controversy. The BJP would go on to win the 2018 Assembly polls in conjunction with the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).However, Saha, whose father Makhan Lal Saha was a well-known businessman in Tripura, continued to have the appearance of a greenhorn in a party with a large number of leaders with long political careers.

He remained a steadfast follower of Deb, even as the state party began to see cracks in opposition to the CM.Academically, Sahas' record was remarkable. He earned a Bachelor of Dental Studies from Government Dental College, Patna, achieving fourth place in the university rankings. In 1995, he earned his post-graduation degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from KGMC Lucknow University with flying colors. He also worked as a professor of dental surgery at Tripura Medical College and Dr. B R Ambedkar Teaching Hospital later that year.

So far, at least two MLAs, including minister Ram Prasad Paul, have publicly questioned his appointment to the top seat of the party's leadership in February this year, requesting Sahas' removal as the state unit chief, claiming that the party's base was being quickly eroded under his leadership. In the last year, the BJP's Tripura Tribal Areas Council (TTAADC) polls, TIPRA Motha, an outfit backed by royal Nonetheless, the ruling party performed well in the civic body elections held in November 2021.......
