Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) India-December 1: Officials said that millions of families in 34 weaver-dominated districts of Uttar Pradesh will benefit from the Uttar Pradesh State cabinet's recent adoption of a plan for energizing the sector with solar power in a phased manner.Officials said that the state has a long tradition of textile production, with handloom coming first and then power loom.The number of handlooms, handloom weavers, and weavers cooperatives in the state is 1.91 lakh, 0.80 lakh, and 20,421, according to an official release.Similarly, Mau, Ambedkar Nagar, Varanasi, Kanpur, Jhansi, Etawah, and Santakbirnagar districts are dominated by power looms.
According to reports, integrating handlooms and power looms with solar energy in a phased manner is in accordance with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanaths aim to make Uttar Pradesh the country's textile capital.Since the program is to be implemented in a gradual manner, the UP Cabinet's decision is expected to gradually lift the weavers' dependence on electricity.According to the initiative, the government would provide incentives to weavers that use solar energy in their workshops and also provide them with solar inverters.This will not only help in saving electricity but also contribute to the production of eco-friendly goods and improving the resultant quality of production. The Yogi Government has made a provision of Rs 10 crore to energize the powerlooms industry with solar energy.The government is negotiating with the bank to connect 50,000 Varanasi weavers for their livelihood and to ensure that the lack of funds does not hinder their activities.Darüber hinaus, the weavers will also receive subsidies under the ODOP scheme, according to the release.The government will launch a campaign to connect 50,000 weavers with banks. The SIDBI will also assist in this project.It should be noted that on the Handloom Department's website, about 25,000 weavers are already registered.With the government's efforts, this unorganized sector is slowly being integrated into the organized sector.According to the Chief Minister's intention, 16 textile units have been granted Letters of Comfort under the UP Handloom, Powerloom, Silk, and Garmenting Policy-2017. 2591 handloom weavers will be benefited from the Ministry's PM Mitra initiative.In addition, the work of acquiring land has started for the development of a Mega Integrated Textile and Apparel Park in Hardoi.Since the establishment of textile units in the park, around 5 lakh people are expected to find jobs.An Apparel Park in Noida has been arranged.
