Mullaperiyar Dam's 10 shutters opened as the water level reached 138 feet.

Tamil Nadu opened ten shutters of Mullaperiyar dam 30 cm each, releasing 2,219 cusecs by 11pm on Friday evening . The water level reached 138 feet by 11 p.m.

Thiruvananthapuram: After the water level reached 137.5 feet, Tamil Nadu opened ten shutters of Mullaperiyar dam 30 cm each, releasing 2,219 cusecs by 11pm on Friday evening.CM Pinarayi Vijayan had sent MK Stalin, a Tamil Nadu ally, a letter requesting his help in regulating the dam water level.The water level reached 138 feet by 11 p.m. on Friday.The shutters were opened in a phased fashion, with the first three dam shutters lifting at 1pm, another three at 3pm, and the last four at 5pm.

The dam was constructed in October 2021 and was completed by the Periyar banks in October.Authorities have warned residents of the banks to remain vigilant.To assess the situation, water resources minister Roshy Augustine and MLA Vazhur Soman visited locations in Vallakadavu, downstream of Mullaperiyar.
