Mumbai case involving Anil Deshmukh: ED approves Sachin Waze approver's request

MUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) called former state home minister Anil Deshmukh the brain behind the whole scheme of collecting illicit money from orchestra bar owners, and referring to irregularities in the transfer and posting of police officers, giving a nod to accused dismissed cop Sachin Wazes' plea to become a proponent in the lawsuit on Thursday.Wazes' deposition was recorded on four occasions by the ED.Applicant (Waze) has admitted to a number of facts and revealed that he had gathered money from orchestra bar owners and handed it over to Deshmukh through Kundan Shinde, according to the ED.Shinde was Deshmukhs private assistant and is the defendant in the case.

According to the ED, Wazes' point has been backed up on technical grounds by oral and documentary evidence collected during inquiries.His arguments, however, are highly relevant on a few fronts.The ED said that applicant (Waze) acted as an assist or facilitator to main conspirator Anil Deshmukh...The applicant has knowledge of the common practices adopted by other accused individuals.Waze will be forgiven and deposed as a prosecution witness if the court allows him to change approver.

The money was reportedly given to his personal workers by 3 crore bar owners in the area, and on Deshmukhs' request.
