According to the annual health report of Praja Foundation, nearly 45% of the posts in the health department are vacant in Mumbai's most densely populated city at a time when doctors are wary of a third wave of cases.Due to tight inspection for Omicron, the average daily count of new cases has increased from 180 to over 230 in the last one week.The Praja Foundation's representatives also stressed on securing the infrastructure.According to the BMC, only 20% of the health budget was allocated for primary care revenue expenditures.

Public health agencies were stretched beyond their limits during the pandemic, according to Yogesh Mishra, Research and Data Director, Praja Foundation.Mumbai only requires 858 government dispensaries as per the National Building Code requirement (one dispensary for 15,000 people).Nevertheless, the city has only 199 government dispensaries, out of which only 15 were open for 14 hours.Others were only available for 5-8 hours.
