Murderers sentenced to life in prison until death by a Dhanbad judge

District and sessions judge Uttam Anand was chased by an automatic motorrickshaw . The two men were found guilty exactly a year after Anand was killed in Dhanbad .

DHANBAD (Jharkhand): On Saturday, two men were sentenced to life in prison until death for fatally knocking down another district and sessions judge Uttam Anand on his morning walk in Jharkhand's Dhanbad last year.Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma were sentenced to an additional seven years in jail and a Rs 20,000 fine by a special CBI court in Dhanbad.Both prison terms will run concurrently.The court also directed the district criminal services department to ensure that the assassinated judges' families receive adequate compensation.

On a morning walk, they robbed the autorickshaw with a sinister style and chased the judge from behind.Pathak said that the two knew that their behavior could kill the victim.Anand was chased by an automatic motorrickshaw about 5 a.m. on July 28, 2021, when CCTV footage showed the driver deliberately swerving towards the kerbside of a comparatively empty road near his home.He died of severe head injuries.

The Supreme Court and the Jharkhand high court took suo motu cognizance of the murder and prosecuted the case until CBI took over the probe.The trial was extended and the two were found guilty exactly a year after Anands was killed in the eastern coal town.
