Bajrang Punia blames United World Wrestlings mat doctors for derailing his World Championships bid . Punia had a deep cut on his skull that needed to be taped tightly to discourage bleed .
NEW DELHI (New Delhi) : Bajrang Punia blamed the United World Wrestlings (UWW) mat doctors for derailing his World Championships bid on Thursday, when they applied the bandage designed to shield ankle and knee on the wrestlers' injured skull, which blocked his vision and made him aware of the taping during bouts.Bajrang, who won his fourth medal (mens 65 kg class) at the Worlds in Belgrade, was told that he had to change the bandage after every bout due to the danger of blood streaming down his wound and the match referee giving his opponent a walkover. The bandage that was used to protect my injured skull was similar to that used to cover an injured knee or ankle. They didn't have the proper taping to cover my skull. In the warm-up zone, I ripped off my hair from the scalp and beard area when I removed the bandage. It was painful and caused me with an itching sensation. For my next match against the USAs Yianni Diakomihalis, it took me at least 15-20 minutes to change the bandage, which I lost on technical superiority.I spent a lot of time trying to get the tape off my face, according to my coaches and I. In an interview, Bajrang said, We couldnt dream for the quarterfinal round. As I was rolling down my eyes, the bandage was obstructing my vision. It was slippery and tripped me during workouts.I didn't have time to inform the doctors that the taping they were using was incorrect. I had the bandage cover for every bout right up to winning the bronze, but it was a difficult job to change it after every match with a new taping.I would have certainly been better at the Worlds had the injury occurred. The preparation was excellent, and it was all about execution.According to him, the results did not come as predicted. In a nail-biting match, the reigning CWG champion defeated Tobier 5-4, but was defeated by Diakomihalis 10-0 in the quarters.Bajrang fought his way back to bronze after the American advanced to the final round of play.My skull has five stitches and it will take around ten days for it to heal.According to him, the goal was to discourage any major injury from occurring, like in the case of the knee, ankle, or the joint, which necessitates a lengthy recovery process.
