NASHIK: On Wednesday, a heavy rain fell on Nashik city, inundating many of the low-lying areas of old city areas, including Dahipool, the old flower bazaar near Saraf Bazaar, Shukla lane, Hundiwala lane, etc.Water flooded shops in other areas, and two-wheelers were washed away.Traffic jams were also spotted at several locations.According to IMD officials, the city had only received 2.8 mm rainfall before this time last year, however, the downpour between 2.30pm and 5.30 pm added another 27.2mm.

The NJA president, Girish Navse, said the civic body had failed to do pre-monsoon maintenance, which triggered the flooding.The Saraswati nullah had to be cleaned.Prakash Kamlesh, the owner of a clothing store in Dahipool, said that the smart city body has designed the highway and laid the stormwater lines.Nevertheless, there are no manholes to drain out the water.

Residents stopped NMC officials from visiting the areas after the rain and asked about their failure to carry out the works.From about 3.25 p.m. to late evening, the Dwarka junction was jammed.Since there was no electricity after the rain, traffic officers had to track the traffic manually, according to traffic police.In large numbers, people who were stranded in the rain left the streets.
