Mangaluru: In areas that are prone to landslides in the city, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has requested funds from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), for the construction of retaining walls.Mayor Premanand Shetty told reporters on Friday that normally funds are released under the SDRF and NDRF for the maintenance of roads and buildings, and that there was no provision for the utilization of funds for the building Elected officials recently urged chief minister Basavaraj Bommai to take it as a special situation and announce a special package for Mangaluru, to build retaining walls under the SDRF and NDRF, he said.MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar has delivered a proposal to the state government, through the district administration.Rain has damaged up to 32 houses in the MCC boundaries.

On the most recent mudslide that was seen at Ballurugudde in Kannur's ward, sandbags have been put in place.He said that tarpaulins have been erected to prevent a mudslide in the area.
