Near Rajaji, the NGT squad searches for illegal sites

HARDWAR: Following charges of violations of the Wildlife Act by commercial establishments within protected areas, a joint team of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Rajaji Tiger Reserve (RTR) inspected resorts and camping sites in the forest area that fall under the reserve forests Gohri and Chilla ranges.During the inspection, sources said that a great many resorts, spa centers, camping establishments, and hotels were found to be in breach of the Wildlife Act.The green tribunal has taken note of the abuses and is likely to press charges against corrupt businesses.In the past two years, many resorts, hotels, spa facilities, and camping sites have been built, according to local activists.

Residents of the area have raised the issue with RTR authorities in the past, but their questions went unheard.Locals also urged the NGT to intervene.
