NASHIK: Despite the devastating second wave of the pandemic, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS)'s decision to conduct the final-year MBBS exam in March last year has been a boon for over 4,900 MBBS students from 42 medical colleges affiliated with the varsity.All of them will be able to register for the NEET-PG 2022 exam, which will be held on May 21.Unlike most of their counterparts in other states, they will be eligible to apply.The NEET-PG exam syllabus had sparked a stir, with a minority of medical graduates from different states requesting that the examination be postponed as their one-year mandatory internship was yet to be completed after the failure of the final-year MBBS exam due to the pandemic.

Candidates must pass the mandatory one-year internship in hospitals after graduating from medical school as one of the basic prerequisites for the NEET-PG exam.Officials at MUHS announced that 4,900 students who graduated from the 42 MUHS affiliated medical colleges will be eligible to sit for the forthcoming NEET-PG exam after completing their one-year internship before the PG exam.MUHS had conducted the offline final year MBBS exam (winter 2020) in March last year and reported the results in early April, allowing these doctors to begin the mandatory one-year internship immediately after the pandemic.Dr Ajit Pathak, the MUHS examination controller, said that we are proud that all these students will be able to register for the NEET-PG exam.

Drs.Dileep Mhaiskar and Nitin Karmalkar, two former vice-chancellors, and Lt Gen Dr Madhuri Kanitkar, the new GM, steered the exam department in a stress-free manner during the pandemic, said Dr Pathak.MUHS was required to make specific arrangements to ensure that the exam centres follow Covid-style instruction.Once the theory papers had been completed, the analysis began immediately.
