CHANDIGARH: While congratulating Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for settling the issue of GST on the Gurdwara Sarais, Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney discussed various initiatives to improve Punjab's fiscal stability with her.Punjab contributed the most to the national buffer stocks, providing about 250 lakh MT of food grains per year, according to Sahney.After receiving the RBI's and the Ministry of Finance's approval, the state has now been availing Cash Credit Limits (CCLs) from a consortium of banks.Due to the Union government's sovereign guarantee, FCI is able to obtain Short Term Loans (STLs) at rates that are much lower than those offered by the Bank consortium, according to Sahney.

Sahney referred to the fact that the Central government should contribute Rs 1,500 per acre to stop stubble burning, which is causing havoc in northern India in the winter.Punjab and Delhi have already agreed to pay Rs 500 per acre.Sahney also addressed the growing debt of Rs.500,000.

The center should immediately consider an interest-free loan.
