Novak Djokovic beat Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-3 to reach the Italian Open final . The Serbian will play Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final in Rome on Sunday .
Novak Djokovic, the world number one, earned his 1,000th tour victory on Saturday by defeating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the Italian Open final. On Sunday, Djokovic will meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final in Rome, where he will compete for the fourth time in a row and 12th overall. It will be a reincarnation of the French Open final in which Djokovic triumphed after coming back from two sets down.Djokovic said he would face him in another final in one of the world's biggest tournaments.I can imagine a big fight, but I'm prepared for it.The 34-year-old is only the fifth player to reach the 1,000 wins mark in the Open Era, after Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer, Ivan Lendl, and Rafael Nadal. In the last couple years, I've seen Roger and Rafa (Nadal) celebrate those milestones.Djokovic said, I was looking forward to reach that thousand myself. I'm hoping to keep going.Playing under the stars, Djokovic broke the Norwegian Ruuds service twice to take a 4-0 lead as the top seed got off to a promising start.Ruud broke Djokovic at 5-3 down and held his serve, but the 20-time major champion ended the set.In the seventh game, Ruud saved three break points before Djokovic broke for a 4-3 advantage. On Sunday, Tsitsipas will compete for his third Masters 1000 crown, advancing to fourth in the ATP rankings next week.Tsitsipas defeated Zverev in the third clay-court Masters 1000 semi-final of the season, and he was flawless from the baseline and strong on serve.Tsitsipas said it was a fight of the serves. The challenge of being able to take that first shot after the serve put a lot of pressure on it, which I think I was able to do really well in the third set. I wanted to be there as long as possible and make each one count, so I was really trying to stay there as long as possible. In the first set, Zverev was strong, his first serve playing like a clockwork, but Tsitsipas dropped a set for the first time in this tournament as he increased his own ranking in the second.Tsitsipas came first in the decisive moment, taking a break to lead 3-2 when Zverev fired a forehand into the net.Tsitsipas defeated Zverev 8-4, taking a comfortable win in the Tour.
