BHUBANESWAR (BHUBANESWAR): Nina Beura, the state vigilance superintendent (Rayagada), was arrested on Saturday for in possession of unaccounted cash of Rs 6 lakh, according to state vigilance investigators.It was discovered in her car, which was intercepted near Khurda, while she was driving to Bhubaneswar from Rayagada.Nina is the third woman officer to be caught by the anti-corruption watchdog in a week.Her husband, the Mahanga police station inspector-in-charge, has been asked to join the probe, according to vigilance sleuths.

Nina's arrest coincides with that of Inspector (vigilance) Manasi Jena, who was arrested by the cops on Friday on suspicion of taking a Rs 10 lakh bribe from one Mukesh Sahu.They were allegedly attempting to extort a government official whose identity has not been released in order to close a petition against him.It was the highest-ever bribe money seized from an officer, according to the vigilance.In cases involving the detained vigilance inspector and woman excise superintendent, the director (vigilance) Y K Jethwa said, The vigilance is committed to taking aggressive measures to combat bribes of government officials, including its own.
