Oil Spill Risk From Sunken Merchant Vessel Being Monitored by the Coast Guard

Coast Guard is using six vessels and two helicopters to check for contamination . Vessel carrying 220 tonnes of fuel on board .

Mangaluru: In a statement issued here, the Coast Guard is using six vessels and two helicopters to check marine contamination in the event of an oil leak from the submerged foreign vessel.Six vessels and two Dornier aircraft are being used by the Coast Guard, according to the officer.According to the coast guard, the wrecked and submerged vessel is carrying 220 tonnes of fuel on board.He said the state administration, the pollution control board, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) are working to minimize the possibility of a large oil leak from the sunken vessel.

The Coast Guard rescued all of the 15 Syrian crew members on board.
