Prayagraj: Bis now, only about 17 percent of house owners in Sangam City have paid their cent percent dues (house tax) to the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC).After examining the status of defaulters and compiling a list of defaulters who have not deducted their house tax for a period ranging from 3 to ten years, PMC authorities gave over 15,000 house owners a notice to clear the pending house tax dues or face strict sanctions, meanwhile.The OTS (One Time Settlement) scheme, launched between January 1 and March 31, has too failed to gain a positive response from the house owners.According to PK Mishra, chief tax assessment officer of the PMC, there are over 2.23 lakh properties listed with the PMC, and 37,000 of the owners have paid their full dues in terms of house tax.

After over 10,000 houseowners took advantage of the OTS program and paid the remaining dues, the PMC had collected around 12 crore during the OTS scheme.The truth was that PMC has assembled a list of 76,490 defaulters whose house taxes have been due for a long time.Authorities at Prayagraj Municipal Corporation received 2,23,489 houses.Authorities at the Department of Consumer Affairs (PMC) claimed to have compiled a list of defaulters zone-wise and found that over 76,000 house owners had not paid their house tax dues ranging from three years to ten years.
