Dhaka: The detective branch personnel in Bangladesh arrested two top opposition party leaders on Friday, a day before their next grand rally in the capital to demand that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinas resign.Mr Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and a Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas were arrested by the detective branch personnel from their homes in separate pre-dawn raids in the capital city.Ex prime minister Khaleda Zias BNP is fighting an anti-government movement, according to Uttara police station officer in charge Zahirul Islam, who said the police arrested Alamgir from his Shahjahanpur home in the capital in a pre-dawn raid, fearing that the polls would be rigged by her administration.Some 2,000 BNP activists were detained in the last several days to scuttle the December 10 rally in Bangladesh, according to political analysts, but the party kept outside Parliament for the 2014 and 2018 elections, saying that no deal with the government has been possible because of his failure to appear in person.
