Ludhiana: The civic officials will make the case in the MC general house meeting because Punjab Energy Development Authority (PEDA) has requested a no-objection certificate (NoC) and an extra 2.30 acres of land for the construction of a bio CNG plant at Haibowal dairy complex. The MC recently constructed an open sports park on the property, and if they give Peda land, the sports park will close down. The PEDA has been told to increase the capacity of the existing plant, but they have proposed to build a new plant nearby to control the waste from all dairy units in the complex. In October 2007, the MC had given Peda the property to the satisfaction of the high court, so that plant development could be carried out.Former cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and mayor Balkar Sandhu laid the groundwork for the establishment of a sports park and a public playground at this location on August 21, 2021.However, the PEDA officials expressed their displeasure with the site's building program in November 2021 and demanded that a FIR be filed against those who are encroaching the property.PEDA demanded that the civic body grant the property to them on May 31 to continue with the expansion scheme. In addition to the existing plant, they have recommended that an additional 300 metric tonne capacity plant be constructed in the city. MC said he used the property when PEDA had not used it for many years. The property had been left vacant for 12 years, according to Mayor Sandhu. When we built a sports park there, they want to develop a new plant there. We have enough land in the dairy complex to satisfy one of the PEDA officials, who claimed that the land was not being used by them because the authorities remained indecisive about the relocation of the dairy units. The biggest concern for the MC general house meeting is: What will happen to the PEDA sports park if the land is reallocated to it?The proposed sports park cost Rs 50 lakh, according to the bank. And if the MC house decides to preserve the park, the other intriguing concern would be what will happen to the plant growth and pollution in Buddha Nullah.
