Pitripaksh Mela: Gaya administration plans to upgrade lodging options

Gaya: With a large turnout of pilgrims expected after a two-year break during the fortnight-long Pitripaksh Mela in Gaya on September 9, the district administration decided to double up the accommodation arrangements for them.The annual festival was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.This year, a larger number of pilgrims is expected to be requested.This year, 51 accommodation locations have been designated for the pilgrims.

When DM Thiyagarajan SM addressed a meeting on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the mela, 100 more places will be identified, the DM said.The ADM's depute teams would carry out physical inspection of all the identified areas, apart from private houses, dharamshalas, and guest houses, to ensure that such areas have access to water, electricity, and toilets.The DM said that the rent of private accommodation places should be set so that the pilgrims do not have to pay more.He said that transportation arrangements are a big problem during the Pitripaksh Mela.

In addition, he directed employees to perform physical inspection of the parking lots to ensure the availability of drinking water, electricity, and a toilet.For the safety of drivers, alternative camps should be established at each parking lot, he said.During Pitripaksh, a hefty number of pilgrims from around the world gather in Gaya to perform pinddaan ceremonies for the salvation of their ancestors.
