Police and armed civilians clashed in Mexico's Jalisco state, leaving 12 people dead.

Mexico City, Mexico, June 24 (Xinhua): According to state governor Enrique Alfaro, at least 12 people were killed in a confrontation between police and armed civilians in the town of El Salto, west Mexicos Jalisco state, on Thursday.Alfaro said on Twitter that four police officers were among the dead, and that three were critically wounded.The governor said that 4 police officers from the town of El Salto were killed in the line of duty in March as part of the Mexico Joint Task Force's efforts to improve the surveillance of criminal activity in the state after a string of killings.The Jalisco New Generation Cartel formed in 2010 as a part of the Sinaloa Cartel and now operates in at least seven Mexican states, as well as Mexico City.
