Sawant blamed the previous governments and advocates for creating certain barriers for the airport.People should be focusing on the benefits that the airport would bring to the state, he said.Sawant told the state that even after the GMR operationalizes the new airport in Dabolim, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia spoke, the Goa International Airport in Dabolim will remain open.From March, international flights are scheduled to launch from Mopa (GOX).

Goa needs both the airports because it will help the city's tourism production dramatically increase, he said.Sawant said that the under-construction, six-lane national highway connecting the national highway to the Mopa airport would be completed by August 2023.Phase I of the airport will initially serve about 4.4 million passengers per annum (MPPA), but by the fourth phase, it will reach a saturation capacity of 33MPPA.Sawant said that the airport will improve the state's socioeconomic growth.
