Produce Records Related to Demonetization, the Supreme Court Orders the Center and RBI

Supreme Court orders Centre and the Reserve Bank of India to keep confidential information . The decision to demonetise currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination was made in November 2016 .

New Delhi (New Delhi): The Supreme Court ordered the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday to keep confidential information concerning the Governments' 2016 decision to demonetise currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination for its use.A five-judge constitution bench led by Justice SA Nazeer heard the arguments from Attorney General R Venkataramani, RBI's counsel, and the petitioners' counsel, including senior advocates P Chidambaram and Shyam Divan The judgment is conditional on the facts.In an affidavit, the Supreme Court said that the Union of India and the Reserve Bank of India are required to produce the necessary reports, while the Supreme Court, which also includes Justices B R Gavai, A S Bopanna, V Ramasubramanian, and B V Nagarathna, cautioned that the court should not proceed to review a decision on its own because it is a step in a larger plan to combat the menace of false money, terror
