Property belonging to ex-BSP MLC Haji Iqbal worth Rs 107 crore has been seized.

Haji Iqbal was arrested by UP police on the day after the latters benami assets worth Rs 107 crore were confiscated . Iqbal amassed a lot of wealth in a span of 30 years, including 11 sugar mills, 111 shell firms, and vast land parcels and properties spread across Noida to Dehradun .

Meerut: The absconding son of the Saharanpurs mining mafia and ex-BSP MLC, Haji Iqbal, was arrested by UP police on the day after the latters benami assets worth Rs 107 crore were confiscated.SSP Saharanpur Akash Tomar told SSP Saharanpur that these properties were discovered by the special investigation team (SIT) formed to look at his illicit wealth, and that the latest seizure pertains to 124 properties purchased in different names.SP (rural) Saharanpur Suraj Rai said, These lands, which total the area of 1,350 acres, were purchased using illicit mining income and have a market value of around Rs 107 crore.All of these lands are situated in the Mirzapur district of Saharanpur.

Iqbal was a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLC from 2010 to 2016.According to Tomar, Iqbal amassed a lot of wealth in a span of 30 years, including 11 sugar mills, 111 shell firms, and vast land parcels and properties spread across Noida to Dehradun.Among other things, several lawsuits have been filed against the Iqbals family for land fraud and other offenses.He is accused of directing a mining operation in and around Saharanpur and is facing a probe for allegedly laundering money worth Rs 10,000 crore.

Iqbal and his sons, Javed, Wajid, and Afzal, who have also been charged with several fraud offences, are still absconding.
