PSPCL makes an appeal to Punjab industries and releases a schedule.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) issues appeal to businesses to stagger their weekly offs rather than simply shut down on Sundays . Officials say continuous process industries and those in essential industries will be exempted .

Punjab's growing power crisis has prompted the state power corporation limited Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to issue an appeal to businesses to stagger their weekly offs rather than simply shut down on Sundays.PSPCL officials said that a draft schedule of weekly offs had been circulated among the businesses in which different weekly offs for different zones had been documented.Though officials maintained that the schedule was open to all businesses, they were given the option to follow it or not, reports said that local PSPCL offices had been reaching out to businesses in their neighborhoods and reminding them about their off days.Officials from the power corporation stated that continuous process industries and those in essential industries will be exempted, ensuring that Punjab can produce around 300-500 MW of electricity per day if the businesses plan to ramp up their off days. The state receives an average of 1800 MW relief on Sundays when the state is dealing with a power shortage and when the heatwave is at its peak, this plan to stagger weekly offs for businesses might be helpful.

On other days, as the order increases, we are unable to meet the demand.According to PSPCL's updated schedule, Ludhianas west circle was to have off days on Monday, while companies in Ludhiana east and sub-urban circles were allowed to have off days on Tuesday. On Wednesday, industries in Patiala, Sangrur, and Barnala districts, which fall into the south zone of PSPCL, were urged to have weekly off on Thursdays, while industries in Mohali circle were reminded to have their rest day on Fridays. If possible, business houses in the Ropar circle have been told to close on Saturday.
