Punjab government advised to take a cue from the south in battling climate change

Climate change has huge effect on temperatures, rainfall, groundwater supply, agriculture . Tamil Nadu government launched the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission on Friday .

CHANDIGARH, Jan. 17, 2016: A coalition of state-based environmental campaigners has urged the Punjab government to take primary learnings and create a joint strategy similar to the Tamil Nadus Climate Resilience Model.The Punjabi climate is changing erratically over the years.Climate change has a huge effect on annual and seasonal temperatures, rainfall, groundwater supply, and agriculture.According to Avijit Singh, a member of Clean Air Punjab, the State government should draw on experiences gained from states like Tamil Nadu and others to create a climate-resilient Punjab.

Our state had no floods or droughts a few decades ago.Aurora believes that the sporadic heavy rainfall in August is cause for great worry.According to the IPCC estimates, one of the main consequences of climate change in Punjab would be that the glaciers would begin to recede much sooner than predicted.As a result, the water conditions across the Punjab river systems will change.
