Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC's health department has asked residents to post photos or video of people throwing garbage in public areas in a new campaign titled Kajavu padodchi anna, kajavu padodchi akka (please do not litter brothers, sisters).Over a dozen violators have been punished with photos and fines ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 25,000, according to the social media campaign.Residents can send photos and video footage of people throwing rubbish in public spaces to the WhatsApp number 9449007722, according to Shabarinath Rai, MCC zonal commissioner.Anyone that dumps waste in public places and vacant areas in the district will face a fine.

Officials will work in tandem with RTO officials and police to identify the individual who is seen throwing garbage in public spaces immediately after receiving the pictures from the public on WhatsApp.According to him, the MCC sends them a notice and charges them a fine.In fact, the WhatsApp number was introduced just recently, when we received several complaints about people pouring garbage in the city's public spaces at Nandigudda.With the help of people, almost 90 percent of Nandigudda's garbage dumping problem has been resolved.

He said that we would increase the number of CCTV cameras in the city very soon so that all dark spots in the area would be cleared.
