PATNA: The state environment, forest, and climate change department has been pondering the possibility of reopening the defunct toy train at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, also known as Patna zoo, to visitors, especially children.Since an engine broke down in 2014, the joy ride had come to a halt. The department has decided to shift the responsibility of resuming the toy train service at the zoo to the East Central Railway (ECR).The engineering department of ECR will perform a survey to assess the track's condition. The railways, according to Surendra Singh, director of ecology, would carry out the study on the toy train soon.We must take into account engineering, security, and safety aspects when it comes to public transportation. We want the railways to take up the initiative of resuming toy train service. The railways had also maintained the toy train, he said. Around Rs 2-3 crore will be spent on repair and installation projects. The main track is a wood sleeper, which is worn.Following the new guidelines issued by the Central Zoo Authority of India, the other idea is to create a new track. If necessary, the new track will be planted behind the animal enclosures, so that the prisoners are not inconvenienced. The 3.5-kilometer-long toy train track has a narrow gauge and wooden sleeper, which must be replaced with new technology.According to a source, the proposed track passes through animal enclosures, two lakes, and a botanical park.
