New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday that the government does not ask Indian companies to purchase Russian oil, but that it is a prudent move to get the best deal in the interest of the Indian people. In response to questions from Upper House members, the minister said that it is his job to prioritize the interest of the Indian people over the cost of any other countries' activities or any other regions' activities for fertilizer, food, etc.We ask our clients to buy oil, what is the best option they have?It also depends on what the market throws at it today. If tomorrow comes more competitive options, it will be difficult.

We do not only buy oil from one nation, but also from another.Although we buy oil from various suppliers, it is a wise move to go where we get the best price in the interests of the Indian people, and that is precisely what we are doing, according to Jaishankar. On the Ukraine issue, the government has made it abundantly clear that this is not a war period, but that is a serious one.We have also done the right thing when it comes to the effect of the war on the Indian people or the rest of the world.

In some instances, Ukrainian officials have offered some recommendations. It's a misty picture.Unfortunately, there's no easy and realistic answer. In this situation, however, the government is doing all it can to help, Jaishankar said.
