New Delhi, December 9: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is implementing a national center of sports science and research (NCSSR), which aims to foster high-level research education and innovation in connection with the success of elite athletes, according to the government.The initiative is being implemented by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), an autonomous body under the Sports Ministry, as well as select universities and institutes in the region.In a written response to the House, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur told the House that the Scheme requires physicians and support staff for routine consultations as well as on- and off-field injury prevention and treatment.All NCOE athletes who qualify for SAI are also covered by medical insurance, which allows them to access medical services in a hospital of their choice based on the hospital's proficiency.
