The state religious council accepted a six-month-old proposal to rename the ceremony . The proposal was submitted from the historic Chaluvanarayana Swamy temple in Melkote .

BENGALURUMANGALURU: The state's highest body responsible for Hindu shrines accepted a six-month-old proposal on Saturday to rename the Persian-sounding ceremony that recalls Tipu Sultans' reign with Sanskrit terms.According to Kashekodi Sooryanarayana Bhat, a scholar and member of the State Religious Council, these names were first imposed on Hindu temples during Tipus' reign, highlighting that the term Salaam does not belong to us.The Mandya district administration in the BJP-run state had submitted the Parishat the renaming proposal received from the historic Chaluvanarayana Swamy temple in Melkote.Since the reign of Hyder Ali and son Tipu, the Melkote temple was performing Salaam Aarati (Torch Salute) every day at 7 p.m.

There were proposals and calls to change these Persian names and preserve traditional Sanskrit names such as Mangalarati Namaskara or Aarati Namaskara.We have restored what was once possible by studying history, Jolle said.
