SC sends all FIRs against journalist Navika Kumar to Delhi Police in the prophetic row

All FIRs against Navika Kumar transferred to Delhi Police after she made inflammatory remarks about Prophet Mohammad . Kumar given permission to petition Delhi high court for cancellation of lead FIR .

NEW DELHI: All FIRs registered against journalist Navika Kumar were clubbed and transferred to the Delhi Police on Friday after she made inflammatory remarks about Prophet Mohammad made by ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma during a TV discussion moderated by her.Kumar would not be subjected to coercion for eight weeks, according to a bench of Justices M R Shah and Krishna Murari, so she can obtain remedies in the interim.Kumar was also given permission to petition the Delhi high court for the cancellation of the lead FIR.Any FIR filed against Kumar in the case would also be notified to the Delhi Police, according to the court.

The bench said that we haven't expressed any opinion on the merits.The investigation will be conducted by the Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit.Kumar had been granted interim protection from detention on August 8 and given notices to the Centre, the West Bengal government, and others on the petition of the journalist seeking to terminate lawsuits brought against her.Sharma's remark on the Prophet during a television debate sparked outrage around the region and attracted strong responses from many Gulf countries.

Sharma was granted interim release from jail in July after FIRs lawsuits filed against her in several states over her remarks on the Prophet made during a TV debate program.It had also shielded her from any coercive action in the FIRscomplaints that may be registered or entertained in the future as a result of the May 26 telecast.
