SG Awasthi was the former chairman-and-managing director (CMD) of Daewoo Motors India . He introduced the Matiz, a small car that was popular in India in the late 90s .

NEW DELHI: One of the founders of the Indian small car industry boom in the late 90s has passed away.SG Awasthi, the former chairman-and-managing director (CMD) of Daewoo Motors India and former managing director of Jaypee Hotels, died on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the age of 79.Awasthi, an alumnus of India's oldest engineering school, Roorkee College of Engineering, joined the Tata Company in 1966 and worked his way up to TELCO in Jamshedpur.He joined the DCM Group of Companies in 1984 and rose the corporate ladder to become the company's managing director in 1991.
