Dhaka, Bangladesh (December 8, 2018) : Shreyas Iyer, an Indian middle-order batter, continues to maintain an incredible degree of consistency and break records, becoming the first Indian batter to score 1,500 runs in ODI cricket.On Wednesday, Iyer completed his feat in India's second ODI match against Bangladesh in Dhaka.With six fours and three sixes, the stylish batter extended his golden streak, hitting 82 off 102 balls at a strike rate of 80.39.Though India lost by five runs in the match, his knock and persistence became positives for the Men in Blue.
So far in his ODI career, he has scored two centuries and 14 half-centuries, with the highest score of 113*.He has overtaken opener KL Rahul, who reached the 1,500-run mark in 36 innings, followed by Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, who reached the mark in 38 innings.Iyer has allowed 721 runs in 14 innings over 16 games this year, an average of 60.08, with one century and six fifties.His best individual score is 113. With one century and eight fifties, MG Erasmus of Namibia has scored the highest number of runs in ODIs this year, scoring 956 runs in 21 games, in 20 innings, for an average of over 56.In 2022, Iyer is the sixth-highest run-scorer in ODIs.In ODIs, the batsman is the top of India's batting charts.Shikhar Dhawan (685 innings) and Shubman Gill (638 innings) are two of his country's closest opponents this season.
