On Friday, low cost carrier Air Asia established its base in Uttar Pradesh and began service in three segments.The airline, which is a joint venture between Tata Sins Private Ltd and AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd, has started flying five times per week from Delhi, Goa, and Bengaluru, and will also operate three flights to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata from September.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the way to Delhi by taking the first flight from Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport.The CM said that as the best state in terms of connectivity, UP will also open up new employment opportunities for the youth in the state, emphasizing on the government's desire to ensure seamless connectivity in the state for growth and inclusive growth.According to him, up to 63 new routes have been introduced recently, which would also be increased to about 108 routes.The CM praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the UDAN initiative for improved connectivity to small cities, saying that the rapid increase in air connectivity is a sign of PM Modis' resolve, which he said that even those who wear Hawaii slippers should be able to fly in.Before 2017, only two functioning airports in UP existed, Lucknow and Varanasi, while the ones in Gorakhpur and Agra were partially operational.In the meantime, air services have been extended to nine airports. The state has set its priority on improving accessibility through expressways, airways, and other means of transport.The CM, who praised the civil aviation minister for his constant support for the region, said that air services would begin in Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Shravasti, and Sonbhadra shortly.This is the first time AirAsia has established base in UP.It will operate from Lucknow for the time being, with three daily flights to Delhi, one to Goa, and one to Bengaluru. The Adani Group has given four counters to the airlines for operations such direct flights, according to a source.In the coming months, he said, these plans will be extended.
