Stepson's attempted murderer hangs himself

Dipak Ahir, 33, committed suicide in Sabarmati Central Jail on Tuesday . He had been released from jail for attempted murder of his stepson .

Ahmedabad: Dipak Ahir, a 33-year-old man from the Jashodanagar area of the city, committed suicide in Sabarmati Central Jail on Tuesday, three days after being released from jail for the attempted murder of his stepson on June 18, according to Ranip police officials.He said he killed himself with a T-shirt in his barrack.On June 19, Vatva GIDC police arrested him for throwing her eleven-year-old son into an underground water tank and closing it off, according to Sangita Ahir's lawsuit.She pushed Dipak away after he fleeing when she saw him trying to kill her son.The boy was rescued and taken to Maninagar Hospital, where he was rushed.

Dipak, who was housed in Barrack 2 in Sabarmati Central Jail on Tuesday, went to the bathroom, tied T-shirts to the window grill and hanged himself, according to Vatva GIDC police inspector Y D Gamit.According to Inspector P B Khambhla of Ranip police, the other prisoners in the barrack were sleeping when Dipak committed suicide because Sangita was in a relationship with another man.Dipak's body was sent for postmortem and police launched an investigation after finding a case of accidental death.
